Breast Cancer, Art, and Self-Love - The Power of Areola Pigmentation
Areola pigmentation is a long-standing passion project at Swiss Color, reflecting our commitment to paramedical pigmentation and supporting breast cancer patients.
Expertise — 5-minute read
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. In many cases, treatment may involve the partial or complete removal of the breast – a procedure that can have significant emotional and psychological impact.
At Swiss Color, we understand that physical appearance and emotional well-being are closely connected. That is why areola pigmentation is our passion project: it can help restore body confidence, support healing, and contribute to a renewed sense of confidence in one’s skin.
What is Areola Pigmentation?
After breast reconstruction, areola pigmentation can create a natural, three-dimensional impression of the areola and nipple. Through subtle shading and individually adapted shape and color, the result can appear soft, balanced, and authentic.
This field is particularly close to the heart of Swiss Color founder and med. dermapigmentologist Ingrid Bregenzer. Along with Master Trainers Paola Gateño, Inna Bennoun, and Amalia Moreno, she is internationally recognized for her expertise in paramedical pigmentation and areola reconstruction. Their work in this field includes:
- Personal care and support for breast cancer survivors
- Professional training in paramedical pigmentation for PMU artists
- Lectures at international congresses and educational events
- Collaborations with hospitals and medical professionals
How Does Areola Pigmentation Work?
Before pigmentation, the skin is carefully prepared to support a precise and hygienic result.
- Existing scars are first treated with the Derma SR microneedling technique to prepare the area for pigmentation
- The areola is pre-drawn in an anatomically correct shape
- The treatment area is hygienically prepared with our SC Skin Spray
After pigmentation, proper care helps support hygiene, comfort, and the healing process.
- For dry or thin skin, a thin layer of our 904 Pigment Sealer is applied as a liquid patch to keep the treatment area supple until the micro-scabs fall off naturally
- For home care, patients are recommended to regularly apply our Aftercare Creme Grazia on the treatment area, as well as the Scar Repair Cream from Derma SR to support scar regeneration
- During the healing phase, patients can use our SC Skin Spray to maintain alcohol-free hygiene and support pigment retention
